Lance Corporal Cecil Walter Bromley

Cecil Walter Bromley was born in 1897, son of Harry & Emily Bromley (nee Harley), and was the younger brother of Sergeant Percy Bromley.

He was a Lance Corporal in the 2nd/6th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, service number 36410, formerly 4732 of the Durham Light Infantry. The photograph of Cecil on Percy Bromley’s page shows Cecil wearing what appears to be the cap badge of the Gloucestershire Regiment, although we cannot find a record of Cecil serving with the Glo’sters.

Letters held by his family shows that Cecil wrote to his mother and brother, Percy, virtually every week.

He was aged 21 when he was killed on 21st March 1918 at the Battle of St Quentin, the first battle of the Somme.

Cecil was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal, and is commemorated on panel 32 to 34 of the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.
